Austin's Little Surgery Story

Today Austin finally had his little surgeries today!
I originally took Austin in to the ENT doctor to have what is called a mucuous seal removed from his lip.  A mucuous seal is basically a saliva gland that got plugged up then turned into a cyst.  It looked like a canker sore on steroids to me!  While there the doctor mentioned fixing the flap on Austin's ear.  It is something that we have wanted to get done but I wanted to wait until Austin was old enough to understand and not mess with it while it was healing.  We decided to get it done at the same time so he could be sedated and not squirmy during the process.  Then while doing the pre-op for the surgery the doctor found some pencil lead in his other ear!  So we added that to his list to get done too!
He was supposed to have the surgeries done last month but he had a lingering cough from his nasty cold, so they were not comfortable giving the anesthesia.  I have spent the last month hoping and praying that Austin didn't get sick again because I did not want to have to postpone it again!
When we got there the nurse was concerned with the abrasion on Austin's cheek and his loose front tooth but luckily the doctor said they were not a problem!

Here is waiting patiently through all the prep work, coloring in his surgery book.

Here is the before picture of his ear.
The abrasion on his cheek came from when he was climbing up his bunk bed ladder, that was not securely attached to the rail.  They both came tumbling down right on top of an unsuspecting Danny playing beneath them.  Poor Danny got the brunt of it all and had a huge goose egg on his forehead!)

Austin was a wonderful patient and he handled the anesthesia just fine, which was my biggest concern.  They gave him some relaxation medicine prior to the surgery which made him really loopy and it was so funny!  He kept pretending to be werewolf, howling and all!  By the time we left all the nurses were just doting on him!  His favorite part was the popsicle at the end!

And here is the ear afterward, all stitched up!

And the pencil lead; it was a bit bigger than what I anticipated!
