Donner Lake was so wonderful this year, but then it is always wonderful when my family gets together! We camped earlier this year than last so the water in the lake was too cold. The creek was too cold too even though the kids still insisted on swimming in it. Luckily there was a pond that was barely warm enough to swim in! And since the water was too cold to be in it much we did a lot of canoeing.
Campfires were great this year. We roasted giant marshmallows and Starbursts. The best part of campfires though is always the music. Bryce's little brother Michael came along with us this year, and was able to join in with his guitar playing.
The funniest moment at camp this year happened at campfire. It was late one evening and we were all gathered around the campfire in the site next to ours (our family has to get at least 4 sites) when a ranger showed up. We figured he was there to tell us it was curfew and we needed to quiet down, because we usually get told that at least once during our campouts. Well this time we were in trouble because a cooler had been left out in our campsite. Bryce and my mom went back over to take care of it and the ranger came back to the fire to give us all a lecture on why we needed to keep everything locked up from the bears. He started listing all the smelly things that needed to be put in the bears lockers; food, lotions, deodorant . . . . and then Austin pipes up, quite loudly and sincerely "Even children?" We all busted out laughing and I don't think that poor ranger got in another word!
